What's In My Holiday Make Up Bag vs What I Actually Used

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all enjoying the summer holidays! I know the weather has been awful here which is just typical when the kids are off school but we've been lucky enough to spend ten days away at my mum and dad's apartment in Spain which has been bliss.

If you've followed my blogs from the beginning you'll know I have a bit of an issue when it comes to packing my make up and beauty products and I put a blog post up last year (I will link it here) where I tried desperately to stream-line the things I take.  I think I was successful in that my make up bag didn't weigh 2kgs but I still took far too much stuff with me.

This year I tried even harder and did really well with all the products until I got to the lipsticks and glosses.  I start off being really good and only putting a few in and then the night before I panic and grab loads "just in case".

I thought I would do a "What's In My Holiday Make Up Bag" vs "What I Actually Used" as I wanted it to be a true representation and not just a blog about the make up I take and maybe don't actually use.  So keep reading to find out what I took with me and what I actually used.
What's In My Make Up Bag
I always start in a methodical way when working out what I need and start with my bases etc and then follow the routine of how I would apply my make up in that order.

Rimmel Good To Glow Highlight & Illuminator
Maybelline BB Dream Bronze
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream
L'Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil Liquid Bronzer
Rimmel Insta Fix & Go 2 in 1 Primer & Setting Spray
Essence 2 in 1 Highlight & Contouring stick
Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer
Essence Maximum Definition Black Mascara
Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Brown
Model's Own Eyeshadows in "Old Gold" and "Copper Pot"
Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in the shade "Soft Candy"
So far so good right! I didn't think that was too bad and was pretty pleased with myself.  Now on to the lip products!

Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Pencils in the shades "Call Me Crazy", "Addiction" and "Red Diva"

From left to right - "Call Me Crazy", "Addiction" and "Red Diva"
Tanya Burr Lipsticks in the shades "Central Park" and "Wild Safari"

My Little Beauty Summer Lips
Dr Organic Rose Otto Lip Balm Serum
Victorias Secrets Color Gloss in the shade "Red Hot"
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors in the shades "Rosewood Shimmer" and "Plum Shimmer"
Essence Colour & Care Lipstick in the shade "Lookin' Good"
L'Oreal Infallible Matte Lip Paint in the shade "002 Virgin"
From the top clockwise: L'Oreal Infallible Lip Paint in "Virgin", Tanya Burr Lipsticks (as before), Essence Colour & Care Lipstick in "Lookin' Good", Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors in "Plum Shimmer" and "Rosewood Shimmer" and Victorias Secret Color Gloss in "Red Hot"
As you can see, it all goes a bit wrong when I get to lip products and I end up taking a whole load with me, which isn't too bad I suppose, if you use them all..............................

What I Actually Used

Rimmel Insta Fix 2 in 1 Primer & Setting Spray
I'm so glad I took this as it was a last minute purchase before I went away and I threw it in the make up bag the night before we went.  It has a really fresh scent (almost like cucumbers) and it helps to matte my face and cool it down at the same time.

My Little Beauty Summer Lips
This is really pigmented for a lip balm and also contains SPF15 which is essential for me on holiday.  It has a lovely feeling on the lips and leaves them feeling hydrated but also gives my lips a nice pop of colour.  I received this in my July 2016 My Little Box.

Dr Organic Rose Otto Lip Serum
I wouldn't be without this lip balm at any time of the year but especially during the summer months.  I love the serum feel to this and how it leaves my lips feeling really conditioned and moisturised.

And that is everything I used!! Yep, out of that whole heap of stuff I used only three things!! I felt so bad and my make up bag was just staring at me the whole time but it was just so very hot and we were either at the beach all day or then back at the pool until late so the opportunity really wasn't there.  I have learned a lesson in this though and you may be thinking that lesson is "I'll take less stuff away with me next time", but you'd be wrong.  I think I've suddenly realised that even though I don't use all or any of the things I take, I love having them there with me "just in case I do".  They are almost like a security blanket and always there if I need them, but on this occasion I just didn't have the requirement for them.

How much make up do you take on holiday with you? I'd love to know.

Love Katherine xxx

  2. I was actually giggling as you listed your lip products. Thats a lot of lippy haha. I think its hard to not overpack make up, so I feel your pain. I tend to buy make up at the airport too, so then mainly use the new stuff. I am getting better though....
