Influenster: Max Factor Voxbox Review

Hey everyone,

I'm so excited to be writing this blog post as it's a review of my very first VoxBox.  Firstly, let me just quickly explain what a "VoxBox" is.  A VoxBox is a box full of full-size products that you are sent, completely free of charge, which in turn you review and keep.  I received mine from Influenster which I have been a member of since I started my blog last year.  It's an app that allows you to post reviews on products and likewise, read reviews that people have posted.  The more you post to the app the higher your chances are of being selected for free products.  I was actually tagged via an Instagram friend for this particular campaign (thank you @bekahscrazyworld) and I have to be honest, when I signed up I completely forgot about it and didn't think I would be in with a chance at all.

As the title says, this box is in collaboration with Max Factor.  I love Max Factor make up and rate their Crème Puff Blushes amongst some of my favourites and a great dupe for the more expensive Hourglass powders.

Inside the box are three products to test and review and below I give you my honest opinions.
Colour Elixir Universal Lip Liner

I've only recently started using lip liners (I think I scared myself off them with my habit of applying a brick coloured lip liner to a much paler beige lipstick way back in the day!) and after trying out a few different brands, it's clear to see that they can vary in quality dramatically.

This is a clear lip liner with the claim that whatever lip colour you are wearing, you can re-shape, re-size and nourish your lips, together with holding your lip colour in place for longer.

I have a similar liner from Barry M and I find it quite scratchy to apply but the Max Factor one does apply really smoothly.  It has a wax-like texture which didn't drag on my lips at all.  I find it quite strange applying a clear lip liner because you can't see where you are going (obviously) but, as I don't re-shape or re-size my lips in any way, I applied it to my whole lip to test out the claims of holding your lip colour in place.  And yes, it really does that.  In a strange kind of way you can feel your lip colour sticking to it.  The Universal Lip Liner is priced at a very reasonable £4.99 and is available in Superdrug and Boots.
Colour Elixir Lipstick - Shade "Pearl Maron"

Believe it or not, I have never used a Max Factor lipstick so I was really happy to try this out.  The packaging is sleek and I love the gold-effect casing and the colour at the bottom so you can see what shade you have.  My first impression on the shade in the bullet was that it looked a little too browny-red for me but when I applied it to my lips, it actually transfers to a more golden orange colour which I really like.  It has a slight sheen to it but I think that's perfect for the summer and overall, considering this was sent out randomly, I think it's a nice colour match for me.  I didn't pick up on a strong scent to these lipsticks but I do think there is very subtle sweet smell to them.  There are no bold claims here regarding how long this lasts on your lips and I have to say it didn't last a long time on me.  It had pretty much all but gone after my lunch but if you're happy to re-apply then this wouldn't be a problem and I feel as a lipstick that's not matte or a stain, that's to be expected.  It does claim however to actively moisturise for smoother, fuller lips and it definitely felt very comfortable on and nice and moisturising.  The Colour Elixir lipstick is available in a wide range of colours and is priced at £7.99 from Superdrug and Boots.

Honey Lacquer - Shade "Honey Rose"

I have used Max Factor lip glosses before and really liked them so I had high hopes for this product.  The packaging is sleek and looks quite stylish.  Although the brand name runs down the front of the tube, you can still see the colour which I always think is handy so you're not rummaging around trying to see what shade you are trying to find.

This claims to be a 3-in-1 lip lacquer giving the smoothness of a lip balm, the shine of a gloss and the colour of a lipstick and I honestly think it delivers on all three of these claims!

It applies so smoothly and easily and you can build the colour up with more than one application.  It felt really moisturising and comfortable and most importantly for me, not too sticky.  I hate it when my hair gets stuck in my lip gloss (not a good look!).  It is scented and smells like cupcake icing to me - personally, I love a scented lip gloss so this is a bonus.  The colour pay-off is great too so all-in-all I think this is a great lip product.  The only negative to this was the shade sent is just a bit too pale for me.  As I said earlier though, as these are sent out randomly, of course it's to be expected that it might not be a complete match.  I wore this on it's own and felt it was just a little draining on my complexion.  I then tried it the next day with a matte, bright pink stain underneath and it did change the colour to a more warmer tone.  I really, really love this product though so will be investigating the other shades in the range.  They are priced at £9.99 from Superdrug (currently on offer at £7.99) and Boots.

I've really enjoyed testing out these three products.  Max Factor is such an iconic make up brand and the products I've used from them in the past have always have been a high quality and these didn't disappoint at all.  I will definitely be purchasing the Honey Lacquer and will probably pop a Colour Elixir into my basket too!

Do you have a favourite Max Factor product you love?

Love Katherine xxx

**I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes**
